Music Ministry

The music ministry at St. Albert United Church allows our enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers – singers, ringers and instrumentalists – to actively participate in our shared worship experience. And have fun making music, too!

Choir

The choir is an integral part of the worship team, leading congregational singing and singing anthems from September to May each year. We particularly enjoy singing at special services such as Christmas Eve, Good Friday and Easter.

Practices are held on Thursday evenings from 7:30 to 9:00 pm and all singers are welcome, whether experienced choral singers or novices. During the summer, music is provided for Sunday services by instrumentalists, soloists and small ensembles.

While the choir’s focus is supporting worship at St. Albert United Church, there are opportunities to sing in the community. In 2018, members of the choir were invited to sing with the Concordia Community Choir for Concordia University’s “Day of Peace” concert at the Winspear Theatre and, in December, the choir performed in the Community Carol Sing at the Arden Theatre in St. Albert.

While there is currently no junior choir at the church, music is incorporated into the Sunday morning children’s classes and activities.

If you sing or play, we would love to hear you. Please contact Music Director Margaret Ward-Jack for more information.

Our Music Director, Margaret Ward Jack coordinates a busy music ministry. Donna Graham is our organist/pianist.

The Senior Choir, under the direction of Margaret, rehearses Thursday evenings. If you are interested in joining the choir please call or email our office and let us know.

Handbells

St. Albert United Church is very fortunate to have a 4+ octave set of Malmark English Handbells and a 4 octave set of Malmark Handchimes. Many of the bells have been donated, in memoriam, by members of the congregation. Our two Handbell Choirs, United in Bronze and Genesis Ringers, rehearse on Monday evenings from September to May. They play at select worship services throughout the church year, including Christmas Eve, enriching the music ministry of St. Albert United Church with their distinct sound.

The Handbell groups also have a rich history of community outreach. They play at senior’s centers and at worship services at other churches in the community. Dessert and Bells has become an annual springtime event at St. Albert United Church, featuring delicious desserts and an evening of handbell music.
